I worry about the profession I love. Industry research shows that PR consultants are primarily focused on media relations. This means getting client names into the media, or often trying to keep them out. But, based on an almost 25-year agency career, the last ten years spent focusing on digital and social media, I can tell you that PR is constantly evolving and it’s so much more than media relations. (Here’s a secret: it always has been). I’ve can’t tell you how many of thousands of times I’ve tried to explain to people that “the R in PR is about relationships”. My manifesto explains the concept of relationship-centred communications. With this blog I hope to spur a discussion about PR for the connected era among communications professionals and clients alike.
